This week we will begin our next unit about Transportation.

Scooter

Today we had a visit from Scooter.   Scooter is a specifically trained classroom assistance dog. Since we have been discussing community helpers and community we included how service dogs help people in the community. We have discussed that when we see a dog wearing the special vest that the dog is working. When a dog is working no one should call to him, try to pet him or feed him.

After we reviewed these rules, we had an opportunity to interact with Scooter. He did tricks for us and we even go to pat him. Check out our pictures on the picture blog.

Community

Community Helpers Weeks 1 & 2

This week we will begin our next unit about Community Helpers.

Here are the theme concepts for this unit:

• A community is a group of people with something in common.
• There are people in our community that help us
• Everybody contributes to the welfare of the community
• We are all members of multiple communities
• Some communities have their own traditions

January 29

This week we will be finishing our unit on Snow.

Story:  The Mitten by Jan Brett

Activities include
A positional book - Where is the bear?
Making a polar bear craft
Retelling the story of the Mitten by placing animals from the story in a mitten.
Getting Dressed in snow gear (paper doll version)

Last week we discussed Penguins, this week we will be discussing Polar Bears.

Choice Time:
Kitchen - We will be transforming our kitchen into a Post Office for our next unit.  The Lucky Duck students will help with this process.

Dramatic Play - Hibernating in a cave (reading stories in a tent)
