Chorus

Thank you!

The Lucky Ducks were lucky today.  We took a walk in the high school to look for specific colors around the building, we were treated with a special performance.  We heard a piano coming from the chorus room and were invited in.  The chorus, as lead by Jonathan Granger, sang three songs for us.  The Lucky Ducks really enjoyed listening to this special treat and were a great audience.  Thank you Mr. Granger and your chorus students for inviting us in for the excellent performance!  There is a picture posted on the other blog.

Upcoming Events!

Picture Day - is March 4th.  If you would like to order pictures please send in a completed form and payment by this date.  We would be happy to hold on to any forms sent in early.  Please send them back in the red folder.

Spring Conferences -  As many of you know, I am expecting my third child in May.  Therefore, I will be holding conferences earlier in the school year, likely in March and April.  If your child has an IEP meeting coming up, we will use this time for our conference.  If you are interested in a conference please let me know.  Report cards will be sent home in June.

Save the Date - We will have an almost end of the year party on

      Wednesday, May 6th.  More information to follow.

OWL Unit 4 Weeks 1 & 2

This week we will begin our “The World of Color” unit. Children will learn about color: color names, color mixing, staining, fading, camouflage and color patterns. Stories for this unit include, a story about a dog that stains his white coat, a lion who paints pictures, a boy who gets special letters from his grandmother,  and a rabbit who wants to buy a special shirt. Children will increase their vocabulary about color and explore colors and patterns directly. We will continue to learn about letters and sounds, including rhyming words. Here are the theme concepts for this unit:

• Color is one thing that makes our world beautiful. Talk about different colors you can see in your child’s environment
• Paints and dyes are used to color other things and are mixed up to make new colors.
• Different substances can cause stains of different colors
• Sun and washing often bleach colors, making them fade
• Color is an identifying feature of many natural things.

• Mouse Paint - The students will work together to paint large mice. They will start with primary colors followed by mixing primary colors to make secondary colors.
• Dog Number Game- Students will roll dice and find the matching numeral on a picture of Dog and color it with a dot marker.

Week of February 9th

This week we are finishing our Wind and Water Unit, peppered in with some Valentine activities. If you would like your child to give out Valentine's on February 12th, please send in 15 valentine cards.  We are not allowed to use any food items during our celebrations, so no candy please.  You are welcomed to send your valentine's day cards in early if you would like.

Our next class reward is Toy Day!

A few things to think about when selecting a toy.  When helping your child choose a toy, it may be best not to be a favorite toy.  We will encourage everyone to be gentle, however we do not want anyone to be upset should something happen to this toy.  Please keep the following in mind when making your selection:

1.  A toy that your child is willing to share.

2. Please do not include any accessories with the toy (it's too easy to lose).

3. Only 1 toy per child.

4. Label your child's toy.

5. Non-violent (i.e. No toy weapons)

6. No electronic toys please.

7.  It needs to fit inside your child’s backpack.
