This past week we earned our first class reward.  The Lucky Ducks selected extra playground time as their first reward.

This week we will be:

• Singing "Higgly Biggly Bumble Bee" while we tap the syllables in our names on a tambourine
• We are continuing our classroom reward program and our second preschool life skill.  When I give you a direction, do it right away.
• We are reading Under the Apple Tree, Fall Changes and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Small Groups will include:

Fine Motor - Cutting straws

Fine Motor - Sponge Painting the letter A

Literacy - Sorting & Matching Letters

Math - Counting blocks to match numerals

Art - Decorating a Maple Leaf

Choice Time:

Easel - Painting Ducks

Back to School Night is on October 14th at 6:30.  Back to school night is an opportunity for you to learn about your child's day and our curriculum.  This event is for parents only.   

This week we will be:

• Reading The Kissing Hand, All About Me and An Apple a Day
• Created an all about me book over two days.
• We are continuing our classroom reward program and our second preschool life skill.  When I give you a direction, do it right away.

Small Groups will include:

Name Puzzles - putting our names together with puzzle pieces

All About me - Creating an All about me book with some of our favorite things

Germs, Germs, Germs!   We will be discussing the important of washing our hands to wash away the germs. I will be placing my hand on a plate of glitter then give all of my friends a high five.  We will watch how the glitter moves from one friend to another just like the germs.  Then we will wash away all the germs (and glitter).

Week 2!

We had a wonderful first week of school together.

• Reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, DW's Guide to Preschool and The Kissing Hand
• Making Birthday Crowns - We are celebrating August and September birthdays this month
• We are continuing our classroom reward program and our first preschool life skill.
• We will be playing on the small playground

Small Groups will include:

How many Ducks in the pond?

Shape Matching to create a fall picture

How many apples?

Decorating the first letter of his or her name.

Are you asking you wondering - Where is your child's school work?  At the beginning of the year, many of the projects we complete are held at school to be used in your child's portfolio as well as to decorate the classroom and hallway.  Other activities are completed with manipulatives and have no paper component.  But not to worry we will be sending home their beautiful work throughout the year.

First Week

We had a wonderful first day of school together.  
Today we:

• Decorated our duck name tags and learned how to play in specific areas.
• Started our classroom reward program today and our first preschool life skill.

• Sang "Wheels on the Bus", "Itsy Bitsy Spider", "ABC's"
• Made a special picture

Welcome to the Lucky Ducks!

We are so excited to start our school year with you and can't wait to meet everyone at our open house on September 3rd.  

We will use this blog to communicate with families about our preschool day. It will be updated weekly with our activities, stories and choice time activities for the week.  These activities are posted to help facilitate conversations with your child about his or her day.  

Additional posts will include highlights of special activities that occur.  We frequently try to post pictures to our Lucky Duck's picture blog.  This blog is designed for Lucky Duck families and is only accessible through an email invitation.  You will receive more information about how to access these pictures during orientation.

Thank you for coming to our show today.  The Lucky Ducks did a great job!  We have had a great year and only have a few weeks left.  We are partnering up with the spunky monkey class to complete activities for the remainder of the year.  Please refer to their blog (located to the right of this post) for the week's activities and stories as we start our last unit about planting and things that grow.  Important notices will be sent home in backpacks.

Shadows and Reflections

Shadows and Reflections: In this unit, children explore shadows and reflections using observations, experiments, and books to learn about what makes a shadow and a reflection. During story time, children will hear about a girl playing by a still pond, a puppy who thinks he is a kitten, a crocodile collecting reflections in a pail, a sleepy boy who sees a shadow save a cat, and a raccoon who has an adventure with only his reflection as company. Children will continue to learn about letters, letter sounds, and counting concrete objects.

Theme Concepts for this Unit

• Reflections are images thrown back from a shiny surface
• There must be light, or there can be no reflection
• Mirrors and still water reflect light well; dull surfaces do not
• If water is moving, its reflections are blurry and crooked
• Objects are opaque, translucent or transparent
• Shadows are dark areas made when an object blocks light
• The sizes of shadows vary, depending on how close an object is to the light source.
